The aim of this work is to contribute to the scientific valorization of Desmodium triflorum from Côte d’Ivoire. He focused on phytochemical screening, total polyphenol contents (TPC) and antioxidant and antibacterial activities of aqueous and ethanolic extracts of the leaves, the roots plus stem and the whole plant of D. triflorum. The phytochemical screening by colored reactions showed that all vegetal extracts contain polyphenols, flavonoids, carbohydrate, expected tannins, alkaloids and ketoses only reported in ethanolic extract, and coumarins in aqueous extracts. The determination of the TPC by the Folin-Ciocalteu reagent revealed an abundance of total polyphenols in ethanolic extracts (33.37 ± 0.66 to 119.47 ± 1.28 mg GAE/g dw) compared to the aqueous extracts (29.579 ± 0.37 to 47.68 ± 0.32 mg GAE/g dw). The antioxidant activity by 1,2-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical method showed that ethanol extracts with CR50 ranging from 0.042 to 0.125 mg/mL exhibit better antioxidant activity than aqueous extracts (0.187 < CR50 <1.5 mg/mL). All plant extracts are bactericidal against strains Staphylococcus aureus ATCC29213, methicillin sensitive and Staphylococcus aureus 348C/19CNRa, methicillin resistant (MBC/MIC < 4).

Tinospora coridifolia is a medicinal plant most frequently used lately in the COVID scenario as being understood and used as a drug which enhances the immunity. However, allegations were made for a short span about the hepatotoxicity lead by the herb amongst the people who have consumed it religiously during the pandemic. This is an article to recollect the evidences that supports the safety and establishes the efficacy of Tinospora cordifolia along with reprobating the allegations. Various previously published studies and recent researches were thoroughly reviewed that supported the safety and efficacy of the drug along with heritage of the Ayurveda classics.
